# x86

**x86** is an [instruction set architecture (ISA)](/notes/computer-concepts/isa.md) that originated with the Intel 8086 microprocessor, introduced in 1978. It defines the instructions that the CPU can execute and how it processes data.

When someone refers to x86 they refer to all the procesor that use this type of architecture.
